Another thing that sets Gary Dawson Designs far apart from the average jewelry store is that we welcome you to bring in your old jewelry!
In many cases we can recycle your materials, both gems and metals, into a new creation. Sometimes, it is not advisable to recycle precious metals. Pieces that have been extensively repaired, chains, and contaminated metals are examples. Extensive solder or other contamination in an existing piece can frustrate the casting process in the creation of your new piece. We will inspect and advise accordingly in every case. However, even precious metals not well-suited for recycling can be exchanged for new metal and therefore still save you materials cost!
Using Grandma's Gold ...even when it is not recyclable. In cases where there is substantial sentimental value in precious metal items that are not well suited for direct recycle, you can still use your sentimental gold. Here's how! We have a close relationship with a boutique refiner that will refine very small lots, and return your exact gold molecules in pure form. I have nearly always made my own alloys (see picture above) and I can use this pure gold (your heirloom gold) to alloy to your desired quality and color.
